Our time here in Farneta is coming to an end. Tuesday to be exact. We are meeting Asher’s mother in Florence, where we will wonder around for a few days, then make a quick stop in Bologna and off to Venice for the Bienalle where we will meet up with other Grenadian artists for about a week! We have enjoyed ourselves here very much. We have learned so much that has caused us to rethink what is important. I don’t need to be made up everyday. I don’t need to wash my hair everyday. I don’t need 20 pairs of shoes. I don’t need to work 40+ hours a week to support some disgusting habit of “keeping up with the Jones’.” I don’t need to eat meat everyday. I don’t need to be in such a rush daily that I resort to damaging my body by buying fast food or processed “easily-prepared meals.” I don’t need constant simulation from a television or computer screen. I don’t need that junk. What I need is time and love. Let’s slow it down. Let’s talk with our neighbors. Let’s say thanks. Let’s watch the sunset. Eat ice cream. Take a walk or bike ride. Let’s have a picnic and read a book and make love and swim in the river and go to an antique fair not to buy, but to look. Let’s grow food and build things. Let’s make art! I’m done rambling for now. I’m going to go bask in this lovely Sunday.
